Debt Collectors Harassing Phone Calls

If you have ever been called by a debt collector on the phone you know, they are the most rude and arrogant people on the planet.

Recently, it has been reported that there is a scam going on where a debt collector will call you on the phone and threaten you with all types of legal action if you do not send them money. Number one, you never give any payment over the phone to a debt collector as they will clean out your bank account. If they threatened you to jail time, this is not true as there is no one put in prison in the United States just because of debt.

When you encounter one of these people on the phone simply tell them to send you a letter outlining your debt. Never give them your bank account number or Social Security number over the phone.

Another trick you can use when they say you are being recorded tell them just a minute while you turn your recorder on also and many times they will hang up immediately.

Bill collectors can call you between the hours of eight o'clock in the morning to five o'clock in the evening Monday through Saturday. They may not call you at your place of work if you request them not to. If you feel you being unduly harassed, there are state agencies you can report the abuse. When you owe money, you pay it but, they can't threatened you because you are unable to pay at certain time. YOU HAVE RIGHTS you know.
