Before moving to Florida, we lived in a three bedroom two baths home in another state that had a large yard with many trees.We are now living in a two bedroom two full baths condo with no yard at all. I have to admit that I do at times miss doing the yard work.

Here, the landscaping is included in our home owner's fee. I remember that we have a lot of trees on our previous property and when the leaves began to fall, it was quite a job to pick them up. My father had a riding lawn mowing machine with a leaf catcher attached to the rear. He would crisscross the yard on the lawnmower picking them up and dumping them in one large pile to be bag. Cutting the grass and picking up the leaves on the riding lawnmower was fun and I enjoyed it a lot. It was a very efficient way to clean the yard. A riding lawnmower is expensive but if you have a large yard it is well worth the money.

As time marches on over the last hundred years we have seen many changes in our environment and daily living.

I recently got an e-mail from a family member pointing out how much different the world was in 1910. It is really amazing how far we've come in the last hundred years.

For example let us take the year of 1910. The average life expectancy for men was 47 years ago. The popular car in this day was the Ford model R. the fuel for this car was sold at the drugstore. Very few homes had a bathtub only about 14%. The maximum speed limit in most towns was 10 mi./h. Only about 8% of the homes had a telephone.

There was also a great difference when you were shopping in the supermarket. The cost of sugar was four cents a pound, coffee $.15 a pound, eggs $.14 a dozen.

Here's a real eye-opener marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over-the-counter at the local drugstore. In 1910 these drugs were not considered harmful.

The population of Las Vegas was 30. Ten out of every adults could not read or write and only 6% of Americans had graduated from high school. There was also no Mother or Father's Day. Canned beer and Ice-T had not been invented yet. The last amazing statistic there was only 230 murders in the entire United States. As the saying goes we've come a long way baby can you imagine what the next hundred years may bring.

Tebow Strikes Again

I really enjoyed watching the NFL wildcard playoffs this weekend especially since my team the New Orleans Saints have advanced and are headed to California. Congratulations also to the New York Giants for their win on Saturday.

But I think the best game of the weekend was the Denver Broncos facing the Pittsburgh Steelers. As they battled back and forth at the end of the game they were tied and would have to go into overtime. The Denver Broncos won the toss and elected to receive the ball. I cannot believe what I saw next. On the first play of overtime Tim Tebow threw 80 yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas which ended the game and the Denver Broncos were victorious.

I have to give a lot of credit Ben Roethlisberger for continuing to play with a bad ankle as I know he must have been in pain. I cannot imagine the pressure that Tebow must've been under before the game as he has been criticized by so many people. It was even rumored that he might be replaced in the second half if he did not perform well. I hope this will put some of the vicious rumors about him to rest. It is very easy for these critics to run their mouths let us see what they have to say now that Tebow has shut it for them. I noticed after the game Tebow did kneel down and said a short prayer good for him this is a man that sticks to his beliefs. So again congratulations to the New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, and the Denver Broncos for moving up in the playoffs good luck.

Another advantage would be if you don't have your own home inspector they can generally recommend a a reputable one. Your Home Is Your Castle

Your home is your castle and you do have a right to protect yourself when in it. There is a law in the United States referred to as the castle law.

This law simply means that if you come under attack in your own home you do have the right to protect yourself. An example of this was on New Year's Eve in the state of Oklahoma a young mom called 911 for help as two men were trying to break into her home.

First let me say my heart goes out to this woman as she had lost her husband to cancer on Christmas Eve two men attempted to break into her home on New Year's Eve where she was alone with her three-month-old baby. She called 911 and asked for help. She did inform them she was sitting there with two guns in her hand. She asked if she could shoot these people if they came into her house she was informed by the operator do what you have to do to protect your baby. As the burglary proceeded they entered her home where she promptly shot one dead the other fled but was later captured by police.

The question being asked now is can she be legally responsible for killing the intruder? Under the castle law in Oklahoma she had a perfect right to defend herself and her family no charges will be filed. Many states have this law. In most cases anyway if someone breaks into your home you to have the right to defend it. The castle law states that you to have the right to use deadly force if an unauthorized person is trying to gain entry into your home. Home invaders be aware you may be at the end of a smoking shotgun on your next job.

The Witnesses

After five years of trying, my husband and I are expecting our first baby. We are both very excited. It feels like it is not real yet because it is still very early. Boom weekend for Orlando

Orlando is having boom week and also weekend. The football game between Notre Dame and Florida state was a sellout with over to 68,000 people in attendance. The Magic basketball game also added 20,000 people in the downtown area on Thursday. You can imagine the nightmare trying to find a parking spot.

It was reported on the local news that the hotel where 95% full with all these people in town for the bowl game along with your regular tourist season. Universal Studios and Disney World temporarily close their gates for a short period as the parks were overcrowded it was reported there were three hour waits to get on some rides.

This coming weekend the scene will be repeated as the Capital One Bowl will be in town and is completely sold out another boom for the downtown area which surely could use it. So if you are planning to be out and about this weekend and next be sure to plan your trips around town as in some areas there will be a lot of traffic.

It may be an inconvenience for some people with all the football fans and tourist flooding into Orlando but I'm sure it is a welcome sight for all the businesspeople and the economy this season. While watching television the other day I saw an advertisement for a small compact car the new Fiat. It featured Jennifer Lopez.

At the time I said to myself I doubt seriously if Jennifer Lopez would ever be seen driving around in a small compact car in the Bronx in New York. The ad went on to portray her returning to her old neighborhood saying that she was inspired and this was her type of world.

The girl featured in the ad was the body double for her. It was reported also that the car actually broke down while filming the commercial. I think the ad would a be more believable if J Lo would've been driving a Mercedes or Cadillac around the streets of Miami or Los Angeles I doubt very seriously if she's ever been in a Fiat or for that matter ever will be. The Christmas season is already upon us boy it came fast. I guess if it was up to the merchants they would like to start on the Fourth of July.

In a few days we will have one of the biggest shopping days of the year commonly known as Black Friday. I have to omit last year I did get up at four clock in the morning and go with a friend of mine to do some Black Friday shopping. I found some pretty good bargains in the electronics department but my biggest purchase was at one of the big box stores where I purchased a washer and dryer. The regular price was $1700 this was one of those washer and dryers that sit on the pedestal you pay extra for the base about $250 each. I bought it complete for $1200 so it was worth my time and loss of sleep.

This Black Friday really I don't need anything but I'm still planning on going out with my wife to see if I can find any great deals. I'm sure I will find something that I can't live without.

Rusty, My Dog

Last year my wife and I were living in Mississippi taking care of my father who at the time was 90 years old. The house we were living in was located on the Gulf Coast in an area known as Gulf Islands National Seashore Park. Some of the land is private property and the rest is owned by the federal government. It is considered a wetlands and there are many wild animals such as red tailed Fox, gators and snakes plus your usual raccoons and possums.

I would normally get up early in the morning have my coffee sitting outside enjoying the fresh air.

One morning while sitting there drinking my coffee a very large rustic looking dog came into the yard. I was thinking wow some kind of wild dog from the swamp as he did look quite ferocious at the time. As the dog approached I said what the heck do you want here! To my relief he began to wag his tail and walked over to me and sat down. This was the beginning of a morning ritual that would last until I moved back to Florida. This dog would come around every morning for breakfast as I had bought some dog food and snacks for him. I gave him the name Rusty because he looked like a Rusty nail. While playing with the dog I learned he was quite intelligent somebody had trained this dog well he would roll over and sit and chase the ball on command. I don't know how this dog ended up in the swamp but he seemed to enjoy his freedom after two or three hours he would disappear and I would not see him until the next morning. I always wondered what happened to him I went back to the neighborhood recently in the morning but did not see him maybe he found a nice home somewhere I hope so.

We went shopping yesterday and later in the evening, my wife and two friends decided to go to a bar to unwind. We were having fun and we made friends with the people on the next table who were blowing circles in their electronic cigarettes.

During the first three quarters of the game the Denver Broncos did not show us very much. The sports commentators kept pointing out all the mistakes that were made by the offense and defense of the Denver Broncos. I call these guys Masters of the obvious. In the fourth quarter the Broncos came alive with Tebow at the helm and scored enough points to tie the game and send it into overtime. The credit has to go to Tebow for putting this beautiful drive together. He threw a pass which resulted in a touchdown and then decided to go for two points to tie the game he ran the two-point conversion in himself in typical Tebow style. The master of the obvious commentators of course heaped praise upon him after this. Great job Tim hang in there you are one of the best.

We just arrived from our 4-days cruising to Bahamas and we enjoyed it a lot! I am retired so; what better way to live an exciting life would be to travel. I was actually researching about the small islands of Cape Cod. I have been to Massachusetts when I was younger and I want to explore the places along Cape Cod Canal. Food Trip

My wife and I love to dine out and explore the food variations such as Italian, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. When we travel, we make it a point to try the famous recipes in the area. At home, we are experimenting few of the recipes to make it our own. We love to travel, and we certainly enjoyed eating. I personally love Italian Soups and Broccoli Cheddar as well as French Onion Soup is my favorite. When I was in the army, I was a cook and I know a lot of food recipe.

When I was younger, I traveled Europe and been to so many places such as Germany and Spain. I lived there for so many years and I am familiar with German and Spanish cuisine. In Germany I love the Goulash soup with dark bread and in Spain, I love Paella. In the morning, I love to eat Tortilla Patata. Traveling to HomeAway UK and Paris France was exciting because I went there for a short vacation. I still remember the places that I visited and I always stop by to a restaurant for fish and dip. Anyway, those travels are the good old days but, I gathered a Travel cook book from the places that I had been.

Amanda Knox Free

Amanda Knox is a free woman now. An Italian court overturned a guilty conviction on appeal for murder. She was freed from prison hours after the court found her not guilty. She has been reunited with her family and is on her way to Rome where she will leave for the United States as soon as possible.

The Italian court acquitted her on all charges but one which was implicating her former boss in the murder. He was eventually found innocent after serving some time in jail. She was fined €22,000 and sentenced to time served three years which made her eligible to leave Italy a free person.

While waiting for the verdict seated at the table with her lawyers she looked very pale and at times was sobbing and to be consoled by one of the female lawyers. When the decision was read she was escorted immediately out of the courtroom by the police guard it looked at times like they had to hold her up and she was sobbing and could hardly walk. I would estimate she will leave on the first available plane in the morning. She was freed from prison only hours after the verdict. Goodbye Italy hello America.

What Happen To Free Speech

ESPN has announced it is cutting ties with Hank Williams Junior for his remarks about Hitler on the Fox and friends morning show. I didn't think the remarks were appropriate myself but not a fire able offense.

I guess ESPN is trying to be politically correct as usual but I did think we still had free speech in this country. I have noticed no one gets fired or condemn when remarks are made about the tea party or GOP candidates it seems like a one-way street. They don't seem to reprimand some of their commentators for on air remarks. Of course they are free to fire anybody they like but let us be on the lookout for remarks made by ESPN personnel in the future and see what the consequences are. Hank Williams can survive without ESPN and so can the rest of us. I will miss the opening song on Monday night football it really puts you in the spirit and nobody can do it like Hank Williams Junior. I don't know what they have planned for the new intro but for sure it will never be the same.

The Blame Game

It seems every day that I turned the TV on there is president Obama having a news conference or pitching his job Bill or stimulus bill.

After listening to all the rhetoric and spin it seems that we are playing an endless blame game. The unemployment rate has been around 9% for most of 2011 was over 9% for 2010 and a lot of 2009 and it is predicted to remain above 8% until at least 2014.

I do not give all the blame to the Obama administration. The last year in office President Bush really did nothing to help and added to national debt. The Congress seems to be fighting among themselves and accomplishing absolutely nothing also. They have the lowest rating in history I think it hoovers around 3% of approval of the American people. But I have noticed president Obama does not take any of the responsibility or blame for our economic problems at all. He has blamed everything from the earthquake and floods in Japan, to the Arab spring, to Congress and gas prices. He trying to run far away from any type of blame. He seems to have forgotten how deep in debt he has put our country and still wants to spend more money. Soon it will be the time for the American people to speak as 2012 is just around the corner. Rather than blame everybody on the planet president Obama should stand up and take control and tried to solve this problem with the help of his GOP rivals. Now is not the time to play politics. The present administration doesn't seem to understand this but I think they will in 2012 when president Obama becomes a one term president as in the case of Jimmy Carter. I wonder who he will blame then?

Australian Open 2012

My wife's aunt who lives in Australia has invited her to witness the tennis australian open on January 16 to January 29, 2012 at the Rod Laver Arena, and she is considering the invitation. My wife is eager to go to the australian open 2012 and right now, she is very excited! I mean, who would not want that? If she goes to the Tennis Australian open, my wife will explore the wilderness of Australia and as far as New Zealand.

That would be amazing! I wish I can go with her so we can explore the countryside. We would plan a side trip to Sydney, Melbourne and see the famous tourist spots in Australia. Perhaps, we can join some tour to see the Aboriginal people. I want to try the Australian cuisine too. It will be exciting to know their culture and the local food they have in their restaurants. I am already drooling over my crazy thoughts. But then again, I do not even know if my wife will push the plan. Tennis is big sport in Australia and it is acknowledge worldwide. Could it be that not knowing how to play tennis would make this trip not exciting? I really do not think so.

We now say farewell to Steve Jobs this is a sad day in American that this man with such innovative ideas as passed away at such an early age. We all knew that he was very sick but now reality has struck that he is no longer with us.

His influence at Apple will always be there but they can no longer count on his valuable opinion and impressive ideas. Thanks to his inventions iPhone, iPad and the Mac Apple will always remain on top. It will be hard to replace his insight and vision and technical skills combined with his marketing skills. Apple will not fail without Steve Jobs but his guiding hand and innovative ideas will be sorely missed.

Doesn't matter how they started, what's important is that they have surpassed trials, won battles and has now become really rich.

Homeward bound Amanda Knox

Amanda Knox has left Italy and arrived in England this morning. She then boarded a flight to the USA and is now homeward bound.

I cannot imagine how she and her family must feel but I am sure it is filled with relief and joy to be leaving Italy. The Italian courts finally came to their senses and found this woman and her boyfriend innocent.

I noticed some of the news commentators are asking what will she do now? I'm sure she would like to spend time with her family and get some much needed rest after this four-year ordeal.

The television pundits of course are saying she will write a book make a movie and do many interviews on the talk shows. I agree and hope she makes a lot of money as she deserves it for what has happened to her.

What a difference between how the public views Amanda Knox versus Casey Anthony. I doubt Ms. Knox will have any trouble selling a book a movie or doing interviews. On the other hand Casey Anthony who some say is the most hated woman in the world if not the world at least the United States. Is viewed totally different as many people vow not to buy her book see her movie or watch an interview. Both accused of murder both acquitted. I do think that Ms. Knox was unjustly charged and is very glad that she would was found innocent. On the other hand Ms. Anthony was acquitted by the court but many people still believe that she murdered her child and will never forget it or to change their mind. It will be interesting to see what paths the two women will take. Only time will tell.
