Getting a Political Asylum

How do you qualify for political asylum in the United States? If you are in the United States and is unable to return to your country or unwilling to return because you fear for your life or will be persecuted because of your race, religion, your political beliefs and your nationality then, you will qualify for political asylum.

You must apply for political asylum at a port of entry into the United States such as an airport or seaport or even at a border crossing. If you are in the United States and have been here for at least a year, you may apply by filling out an application.

You may even apply for asylum if you are illegal in the country and you must apply under the definition of a refugee. Your eligibility for asylum will be determined by an immigration judge or asylum officer. Your claim for asylum will be processed within 60 days of your application.

If the asylum is denied, you will be promptly deported from the United States. You may get more information on political asylum by going to the State Department website or contact an immigration  attorney.
