Collection Scams

If you fallen on hard times it is a stressful time and your mind is full of so many different problems that you might not even remember some of your bills and forgot to pay them. Or maybe you have paid the most important ones such as utility bills, car payments and some credit cards planning to pay the others as soon as possible.

There are many unscrupulous people out there who will prey upon you. There is a scam currently being pulled on innocent people who are in debt. You may get a phone call one day from a person claiming to be a debt collector demanding payment for certain amount of money that you can even remember. Your mind wanders and you think maybe I do owe this money and forgot to pay it don't fall into this trap. These people will be very aggressive and demand money immediately. They will threaten you, continually call your home and even say they will take you to court this is all just a scam donot be intimidated. A bona fide bill collector will not do any of this over a phone.

If you encounter any of these scammers over the phone the best way to deal with them is to tell them to send you a bill so you may review it. Do not except a bill by e-mail as this can be manipulated also. This normally will infuriate your scammer and they will even threaten more. Also inform them that you are filing the complaint with local, federal and state agencies. Under no circumstances send these people a check or money order. Many of these calls are placed at random and did not even originate in the United States. Beware of any type of collection asking for money over the phone always ask for a written statement sent to you.
